Four years ago from today in 2013, I (along with three friends from the homeschool co-op) bought vanilla beans from Amazon and vodka from the liquor store and made my own vanilla extract. I STILL have those same beans in my spice cabinet, and the vanilla extract is just delicious! !! I keep two pint jars going at all times – one which I use and the second to steep. It takes me six to twelve months to get through one jar, and by then, the second one is ready. This was possibly one of the most frugal and best things I’ve ever done from scratch!
