We have goats again!

We have goats again at Striving Acres!  I borrowed this pair of pygmy does from a friend who is in the process of moving and just isn't ready to take the goats to the new place yet since they are currently going back/forth each week to box up the old house and move into the … Continue reading We have goats again!

Best fertilizer around

We expanded the pig pasture to include the hens' pasture last year in September when we brought the pigs home.  It was somewhat grown up and covered in patches of daisy-like wildflowers, and there was some grass, but there were bare patches, too. By February, the pigs had cleared the entire thing; it looked like … Continue reading Best fertilizer around

It’s always something

Ted loaded up the pigs Sunday evening and put the trailer in the barn to keep them warm and dry. The goal was to go straight to the butcher shop early Monday morning before work. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that they didn't open that early. Luckily, I found out before we left because I checked … Continue reading It’s always something

Weighing Meanie

Es-cop-ay! (said in Dory’s voice)

All four pigs got out.  Ted was gone for work, and when I went to feed them, they weren't there.  I kept looking for them, thinking they were sound asleep in a pig pile,  and then I was looking at the yard, thinking, "What did those dogs do NOW???"  Then I realized the pigs pushed … Continue reading Es-cop-ay! Moving Eenie, Meenie, Mynie, and Mo

Moving pigs is never an easy job. They are smart, and they are creatures of habit so once they learn their fence boundary, they never want to cross where they know the electric line is supposed to be.  I, however, do not want to raise dirt lot pigs so they had to move to the … Continue reading Moving Eenie, Meenie, Mynie, and Mo
