They’re back

We lost both roosters, two hens, and the young chick that hatched this summer. This all happened Saturday night.

I have lost a couple over the past two weeks, but I thought they’d flown out of the run to roost in a tree but then were grabbed at night. I was wrong. These were killed in the coop’s locked run so it had to have happened before I locked it. No predator was locked in.

There are no pics because I was just too upset to take any.  The heads were missing except for the mean white rooster. His neck was broken. He fought hard but didn’t make it.

I’ve changed my routine and am now locking the run at dusk nightly instead of at 9 when it’s dark. Hopefully that will work.

I’m pretty sure it was a raccoon. It’s that time of year.
