Firewood!

All the wild cherry trees had to be cleared out of the new pasture land. Bob pushed them all into one big pile with the bulldozer. Ted has been going down there after work a few nights a week and cutting up those cherry trees. I had him cut them in about 15 inch lengths … Continue reading Firewood!

Junk drawer success

At the local auction Saturday night,  I bought four of those little organizer boxes for $2 total. They're normally $3 each so I got a great deal! As soon as I got home, I knew exactly what to do with the boxes: organize the junk drawer!  It was already somewhat organized, but everything didn't fit … Continue reading Junk drawer success

Mommy’s little helper

Saturday afternoon, Jake and I did a little gardening.  I taught him about composting the chicken house droppings with leaves and showed him how beautiful the black dirt is that it makes. Then we planted a bleeding heart root and a bunch of zinnia seeds... ...and a whole lot of dandelions!

Peepers update

80% of the eggs hatched! Not only that, ALL of the hatchlings are thriving so far! Romeo (the first hatched) is a little bully. He pecks the other chicks and chases them around the pen. He's the sweetest little thing when we handle him though; he's so tame he jumps right up on my hand … Continue reading Peepers update

What is this???

This little tree is broken over in our main driveway. I have no idea what it is.  The buds are pink and then are white flowers when they open. They look very much like the blossoms on my apple tree. These are the leaves on it.  This is definitely a small tree and not a … Continue reading What is this???

Our newest addition!

This is a Royal Palm Turkey (tom/male).  He is speckled black over his white feathers, and he's getting along just fine with everybody! He's a juvenile, but he's HUGE!  He also loves our hen although she's not too sure about him yet. He FINALLY stood still long enough to get a good picture!!! I'm so … Continue reading Our newest addition!

New pasture

This past Sunday, we decided to move the cattle. The ground was just too wet where they were, and it just didn't have enough space for them. Ted was moving the fence a little everyday, but they were clipping the grass almost to the ground. We got them to move away from the bottom portion … Continue reading New pasture

Setting the tile

Ted spent about two hours dragging this old well tile out of the woods and around to the fork in the driveway for me. We thought it would be easy. IT WAS NOT. The tile wouldn't come off the hay spear, and then it broke on one rim, and then the chain kept slipping or … Continue reading Setting the tile

Peepers!

Look what started hatching yesterday! This little one hatched four days early. He's being spoiled. This morning, this little one hatched (three days early)! A few minutes ago, I heard more peeping in the incubator!!! We're about to have a full house!
