The high today has been 74 F so far. I started working outside at 8:30 this morning (Monday) and just sat down for a break at 2 pm. When it's cooler out, I get more tasks completed. Today I have: 1 pulled weeds along the sidewalk 2 repotted a large petunia from a little hanging … Continue reading Cool weather is awesome right now!

Hatching update
Two other eggs pipped, but sadly didn't make it. One chick got out of the egg but died shortly after. The other chick didn't break any more of the shell and died inside the egg. Mama hen got into a pecking match with another hen over who would mother the chuck (evidently that hen jumped … Continue reading Hatching update
Family reunion
We went to my FIL's family reunion today. It's a yearly party, and I love it! For me, Sundays as a child were always spent with extended family at one or the other grandparents' home with aunts, uncles, and cousins. I miss that togetherness. Jake met a cousin today who's his age, and they … Continue reading Family reunion
Chick #1!
Out and about and driving her Mama wild because she keeps getting down from the nest and then can't get back up there. LOL
Egg watch 2014
This hen went broody. She is setting on 16 eggs. I know because she got very mean and pecked me almost a month ago (and everyday since if she thinks I am too close). I don't know if all 16 eggs are fertile, but at least one is!!! LOOK! A CHICK IS HATCHING!!!
Better late than never
We're starting leash training today. Puppers is nearly five months old and still won't walk on a leash. She acts like I'm killing her when I hold the end, and she either rolls on the ground and howls (screams) like she's dieing or just yanks backwards to try to slip the collar over her head. … Continue reading Better late than never
Country road, take me home…
...to the place I belong.... I wouldn't trade this view for anywhere else in the world! I love going home when I've been anywhere.
Food independence
I planted my garden on July 4th. Yes, that's terribly late. I know that. Better late than never, right? I figured I could not do it and then moan and groan about it or try to do it this late and be thrilled if I actually get any veggies from the plants. I planted three … Continue reading Food independence
$2 Toolbox
Every single time I have a job around the farm to do, I spend at least 30 minutes (or more!) locating the tools I need to do it. Ted swears I leave tools everywhere, but that's not true. I know it's him (and the kids)! I found a toolbox a local man was selling (he … Continue reading $2 Toolbox
Open for grazing!
The gate has been installed, the water tanks have been filled, and after 4 trips (chasing goats who would get allllmost to the gate and then run back up the driveway home), Bessie and the Terrible Twosome are successfully in the new pasture and grazing! All that goat chasing wore Ted and DG out. LOL
