When the power goes out

June 19, 2022 / strivingacres / Leave a comment

Last week, we (Ted, Jake, Janeesa, and I) went bowling and ordered takeout. As we were sitting in the parking lot, waiting on our food, Sahara called and frantically told us to get home asap because the storm was coming in and tree limbs were falling on the roads due to high winds. As we … Continue reading When the power goes out

Bird treats

June 11, 2022 / strivingacres / Leave a comment

Gramma Izzie always fed "her birds" (wild birds), and I started doing it after she died. I'm still doing it. I have four feeders on the porch, and I recently put up a glass hanging birdbath (but the birds wouldn't go near it with water so I am using it as a feeder now and … Continue reading Bird treats

I make a fresh pot of coffee every morning now that I'm home again (shout out to Ted for making me coffee and handing it to me every morning all school year!). Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, coffee … Continue reading Anybody want coffee?

I don't care what he says - Stella is most definitely Ted's cat, and Ted is most definitely Stella's person!

Full bloom!

June 2, 2022 / strivingacres / 2 Comments

I don't know what happened, but my climbing rose bush went WILD over the past two weeks! She's grown so much and has so many roses open that some of the canes are bending over and touching the ground!

New steers

May 30, 2022 / strivingacres / Leave a comment

These are our new steers! They will be here @ 12-18 months. They're very skittish still! These two want nothing to do with nose pats or ear scratches or a piece of fruit... YET. Challenge accepted, boys!

Lavender Orpingtons

May 29, 2022 / strivingacres / Leave a comment

This big guy is a Lavender Orpington rooster. I absolutely love this breed. He and the hen (in front of him) are well mannered, large, beautifully feathered, and good tempered. They aren't flighty or aggressive at all. Ted can lift him right off his roost at night without getting pecked or kicked. This guy is … Continue reading Lavender Orpingtons

"This is the year." I say that every year, but THIS IS THE YEAR! I WILL MARK THE BERRY BUSHES SO I CAN FIND THEM EASILY AGAIN!!! Also, it looks like we will have loads of wild berries this summer - I'm seeing berry bushes in bloom everywhere on our farm and along the highway … Continue reading Berry blooms

We've had a Mama on eggs for the past three weeks, and Saturday morning, they started hatching! We found a low sided leftover Amazon box and bought a new bag of pine shavings Saturday afternoon, and we moved Mama and her babies and eggs into it that evening. She didn't peck Ted - not even … Continue reading New chicks!
