Homemade Powdered Laundry Soap Recipe
I have been wanting to try this for quite some time, but I never saw a recipe that looked “right” to me. Also, I wanted a powder detergent and not a liquid (and most of the recipes I could find were for DIY liquid detergents).
I saw this one earlier today and am going to try it. I’m going to be smart about it though since it will be a trial detergent. I already use borax and washing soda in my dishwasher detergent (1 cup borax, 1 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup kosher/rock salt mixed in a jar and then a sprinkle of citric acid in the little dishwasher cup along with this mixture and vinegar placed in the rinse agent holder – it’s AWESOME!).
Anyway – being smart about this – I’m going to dump just the borax and the washing soda in a big jar and mix it up. I am then going to figure up exactly how much of the baking soda, Oxiclean, and Fels-Naptha (grated) correlates to just two cups of the borax/washing soda mixture, add those amounts, and try this out to see how well it works. That way, if it doesn’t work, I can flip the borax and washing soda mix over to my dishwasher detergent which DOES work, and I can just use the rest of the ingredients in laundry and for other cleaning I do.
Thank you Mr. Newman and Mrs. Benson (4th and 5th grade math teachers) for doing such a great job teaching me all about fractions!!! I have a feeling that’s going to come in handy when I attempt to do this recipe this weekend. LOL
