Striving Acres proudly announces Bindi born September 22, 2015 at 4:56 p.m., @ 45 lbs After much back and forth discussion, Ted and I finally settled on the name Bindi as a tribute to the late and great Steve Irwin (1962 - 2006). He was an animal lover, a wildlife expert, a conservationist, and he was … Continue reading Striving Acres proudly announces…

We can’t get enough of the baby!!!
We're trying to be respectful of Bessie and her new baby (still unnamed), and we're trying to give them space, but it's JUST.SO.HARD! Ted checked on her this morning while I worked. Bessie doesn't want us to touch her so she puts herself between us and the baby. Gramma checked on her from across the … Continue reading We can’t get enough of the baby!!!
BESSIE HAD HER CALF!!!
Ted moved Beef and Bessie last night into the paddock (which now opens into the huge new fenced three acres). This morning, Bessie acted "off". She didn't eat much, and she seemed restless. Gramma said she was sure today would be birthing day. We checked on her many times today; about eleven this morning, she … Continue reading BESSIE HAD HER CALF!!!
Not cool, folks
There's an old driveway that goes from our place up to the church. It was used before the church's driveway was cut several years ago. We joke and say the church driveway is the super highway (it is WIDE). This old little one is getting grown up with patchy grass, and nobody uses it so … Continue reading Not cool, folks

Funny pics
It's no secret that Beef and Bessie love their hay - especially when it's a brand new bale. They always act like they've never seen such a wonderful delicacy before. They rub it and throw it around and tear into it like a kid tearing into Christmas gifts. Beef sporting the newest farm 'do They … Continue reading Funny pics
Beef’s Bad Habit
Beef is the best natured bull I've ever seen. He's friendly and curious, and he's super easy to move between pastures and work with so far (I say so far because I've seen enough YouTube videos to know that when a bull goes bad, it usually happens fast, and there might not be a lot … Continue reading Beef’s Bad Habit
Cattle in the backyard
We decided to move Bessie and Beef up behind the house. Ted put in the temporary posts and ran one string of electric wire around the patch of trees and through the backyard field. Then he decided to move them up the driveway without any electric line on the sides of it. I really didn't … Continue reading Cattle in the backyard
Bessie gave me a heart attack
I was coming home from dropping Sahara off at band this morning, and I noticed Beef (unusually) standing a ways off from Bessie, and Bessie was off by herself, standing over what looked like a big brown lump setting in the dirt. I couldn't see it very well, but the closer I git, I could … Continue reading Bessie gave me a heart attack
Supervisor and crew
Look closely: that speck of white between the tractor and cattle is Cooper. No matter what Ted is doing, he has a crew that just stands around, watching him work. Same thing with Cooper, the little supervisor: he loves to hang out and watch. They make the perfect crew and supervisory team!
