Hurt chick update

Wednesday morning she was up and waiting for me in her box! Her wing wound looked much better. I moved her to a small dog crate and put the box in it sideways to restrict her movement (I don't want her tiring out or pecking at her wing) and to give her a safe place … Continue reading Hurt chick update

Chicken doctorin’

One of the six week old chicks got herself caught in the little metal feeder Tuesday afternoon. She couldn't go forward because she was too fat, and she Evidently couldn't go backward because she couldn't lift her read enough to get it over the edge. She pecked and pecked at her own wing and a … Continue reading Chicken doctorin’

The last of the cherries

These were washed and frozen on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. I just jiggled the paper to break them apart afterward, and then I measured them into quart size freezer bags, labeled them, and put them in the deep freeze. These will make yummy pie and shortcakes at a later date!

Making maraschino cherries

I used some of the cherries we picked to make my own maraschino cherries! The recipe was straight forward and easy to follow. It said they'd last three weeks in the fridge, but according to this recipe they last for months. We'll see!           Let's hope they taste good.

Eeeeeeeek!!!

This huge spider was on top of the broody box Tuesday night when I went out to shut up the chicks. I almost had a heart attack. That board is a 1x4!!!! THAT SPIDER IS ALMOST 4" ACROSS!!! It's no longer in the coop. That thing was big enough to kill and eat one of … Continue reading Eeeeeeeek!!!

Pickin’ cherries

Sometimes, dropping everything to go pick fresh sour cherries is the exact thing you need to relax. I needed it this afternoon.  I was ready to tear some grade spreadsheets in half (if that could be done to digital spreadsheets).          I really REALLY needed it! I'm so grateful I got to do this with … Continue reading Pickin’ cherries
