It’s no secret my hens didn’t lay most of the summer and fall. I resorted to buying eggs from the farmers’ market and a co-teacher. 

(But these are from my hens…look how big they are!!!)

When the temps fell, I switched their feed to cracked corn in lieu of laying mash. I also made plans with an Amish lady to butcher ten of the flock for the freezer.  Lo and behold, they started laying!!!

The colder it gets, the more they lay!!! Today I broke through four inches of ice in the water tank, and they layed seven  eggs.  Three were in the barn and four little beauties were amongst the hay bales in the garage this evening.

It’s official. My hens are crazy. If not crazy, they are at least backwards!!! LOL
