This used to be our fish pond, but it flooded during the summer so the last fish was scooped out and placed into our swimming pool with the ones from the winter (when the ice topped the pond and caused the big fish to die).
Now it’s a frog pond! There are five big frogs in the pond now. Every time I walk down the sidewalk, I just hear lots of plops as the frogs dive for safety.
At night, I lift the window and listen to them croak and sing all evening long. It reminds me of when I was a little girl, spending the night at Mamma Hazel’s house back in the holler. She never ran her air conditioning, so the frogs lulled me to sleep every time.
I hope my kids remember things like this when they’re older.
