Bad news: we came home from picking up feed to find a pig dead. We have no idea what happened. She has seemed absolutely fine – eating, drinking, playing with the other two, rooting around in the pasture, but she was the pig with the hernia though so we think that may have caused some sort of underlying health issue for her (although multiple pig farmers told us that doesn’t usually cause any issues for pigs). She ate yesterday morning, but she wouldn’t come out of the trailer this morning; Ted just thought she was hot (it’s been in the 90s all week and so humid).
Now we are on high alert, watching the other two. They seem fine, but I’m very worried about them now! We’ve made the decision to move back to winter pig raising; we are not finding any positives to summer raising at all.
