Blast to the past

It was rainy all day Thursday so Ted couldn't do much outside.  He bought a little sandblaster for the air compressor so he decided to try it out in the garage. I have had a stack of my Great-grandma Bertha's cast iron pans for a few years. I found them in Gramma's old garage. The … Continue reading Blast to the past

Progress!

Monday was a great work day for the new coop. The weather was beautiful! The front wall, window, and door frame went in. The door is over 100 years old and solid wood. Dad gave it to me from his stash (in our family, tossing out stuff is like a cardinal sin LOL). Sometimes being … Continue reading Progress!

One more step in the right direction

I have such big dreams for our little farm. I foresee workshops and classes to teach others how to can, make cheese, care for chickens so they can raise their own....in short, one of my biggest hopes is not just to connect people to their food but to convince them that they, too, can be … Continue reading One more step in the right direction

On furlough

Sunday was absolutely gorgeous here! We spent almost four hours outside doing little chores that built up over the winter. The chickens got to head into the paddock for the day. Since we can't contain Bessie there anymore (she just goes right through or over the fence), we were thinking of moving the chickens there … Continue reading On furlough

Coffee porn

I watched the latest episode of "Modern Family" and cracked up the other night because Claire has a desktop shortcut to "porn" on her lapyop. When she clicks it, it's all organizational items pinned to her Pinterest board. LOL. It made me laugh and decide to share my pics - but thus is all real … Continue reading Coffee porn

Bake bread in the crockpot!

This is DELICIOUS! It's very easy to make. I didn't do any hand kneading  (I can't with my wrist), and I used @ 4 cups of flour total (the recipe calls for 3 1/2). http://bakerette.com/crock-pot-white-bread/ Mix the ingredients in a stand mixer. Line the crockpot with parchment paper. Dump in the dough.  I let it … Continue reading Bake bread in the crockpot!

Poor fishies

I went out on the porch Tuesday to feed the cats and thought the fish pond looked "off", and then I realized the liner looked lopsided somehow. Ted was already headed home so he got to it within about 45 minutes from the time I noticed it. The orange part is one of the orange … Continue reading Poor fishies

Best chili seasoning ever!

I found this chili seasoning recipe and threw it together in a jar (minus the flour). I browned a pound of hamburger and added it to a pound of cooked (starting from dry that morning) red beans and about a pint jar of tomato juice and two cans of tomatoes with rosemary and garlic. Delicious!!! … Continue reading Best chili seasoning ever!

Scrapbooking alternative

I had an app recommendation pop up in my Facebook feed the week before surgery. If you've ever been faced with being put under general anesthesia, you know the thoughts that go through your head...because sometimes, even for just routine surgery, patients go in and don't come out.  I thought something like this would be … Continue reading Scrapbooking alternative
