On furlough

Sunday was absolutely gorgeous here! We spent almost four hours outside doing little chores that built up over the winter. The chickens got to head into the paddock for the day. Since we can't contain Bessie there anymore (she just goes right through or over the fence), we were thinking of moving the chickens there … Continue reading On furlough

Mama turkey

I went out to the barn to lock everybody in for the night, and Turkey Mama was standing over a nest of eggs. She kept making the weird high pitched "boop" noise she does when talking to me. Sometimes that noise means good things and sometimes it means bad things (for me). I'm not sure … Continue reading Mama turkey

Kickin’ it into high gear

My hens are ridiculously backwards with their egg laying. Most hens lay tons when it's warm (late spring through early fall). My girls lay eggs when it's super cold. It's like they think a snowpocalypse is going to force them to the brink of extinction, and they lay tons of eggs to propogate their species. … Continue reading Kickin’ it into high gear

Austin holds a bird

This is Sahara's boyfriend, Austin. He wanted to hold a bird. He followed them all over the yard trying to get one. When he caught the turkey, she poo'd by his shoes.  He didn't much want to hold her after that.   Bwahahahaha!!! Teenagers crack me up!!

It came out looking like jello this morning which means that it did what it was supposed to do while cooking. You want … Continue reading The best part is yet to come…

Sadness is…

... going out to feed everybody, and finding one of the turkeys died in the night. It's doubly sad because that was the one for Thanksgiving dinner!  I have no idea what happened to it. It seemed perfectly healthy yesterday afternoon when I checked on everybody. Happier times......

Produce galore!

There were soooo many bags of apples gifted to me that I couldn't let Bessie and the Terrible Twosome have them all (too many could cause bloat). I gave them about 50 apples and gave the rest to the turkeys and chickens. The turkeys went wild for these things. Getting extra or soft veggies and … Continue reading Produce galore!

The new additions

Guess what I picked up last night after the doctor appointment? TURKEYS!!!!!! Meet Christmas Supper and Thanksgiving Dinner: I bought these from a young girl who raised five for the fair but could only take two to the fair (these are two of the three who didn't go to the fair). I am very happy … Continue reading The new additions

Stretch It Just A Little More

After Thanksgiving there is so much turkey leftover! Almost every blog and site lists leftover turkey recipes, and I've noticed a lot of them are getting more and more Complicated. Not here- no, here I like to Keep it simple. I have kids, a husband, a house, and a mini-farm to run. Oh yeah- and … Continue reading Stretch It Just A Little More
